Overview
A Distinctive Municipal Website Celebrating Dolinka’s Local Identity
Dolinka Municipality, a rural community in southern Slovakia with approximately 434 inhabitants, approached Playful Sparkle to redesign its municipal website. The village retains its agricultural character through longstanding beekeeping traditions, preserved rural houses and its annual Honey Festival, creating a strong local identity that deserved a fitting digital presentation.
The objective was to create a welcoming, accessible website serving residents, tourists and local businesses while bringing municipal information, news, events, tourism and cultural heritage into one organised online destination. A defining feature was the use of different seasonal backgrounds, giving the website a changing visual identity throughout the year.
Objective
The project needed to balance practical information access with a design that reflected the character of the community. Municipal announcements, event information, local organisations, tourism resources and multimedia content had to fit into a coherent navigation structure without making the information-rich homepage difficult to use. The design also needed to distinguish the website from conventional municipal portals through a visual concept connected to Inám’s rural surroundings and traditions.

The redesigned website brought municipal administration, community news, events, tourism and multimedia into one structured online destination. Its multi-column layout accommodated news articles, calendars, announcements, weather information, photographs and videos, while clearly labelled navigation helped visitors locate relevant content across municipal services, culture, sport and local activities.
The seasonal backgrounds became the website’s defining visual feature. Autumn foliage, summer countryside and winter landscapes created distinct appearances while preserving the same underlying navigation and content structure. Combined with the village crest, framed photography and traditional decorative details, this approach gave the website a recognisable identity rooted in Inám’s community and surroundings.
Approach
Playful Sparkle combined a structured municipal portal with an editorial-inspired design influenced by local heritage and traditional printed materials. The interface used a parchment-inspired header and footer, decorative framing, layered photographs and the village crest. A predominantly white and cream content panel provided a stable reading area, complemented by blue headings, orange-red separators and turquoise links to distinguish content categories and establish visual hierarchy.
The seasonal design system changed the atmosphere of the wider composition without disrupting the website’s core structure. Autumn introduced golden foliage and warm colours, summer brought brighter green countryside imagery, and winter used snow-covered landscapes with cool blue-grey tones and seasonal decorative details. Within this changing visual environment, the central content layout remained consistent, balancing the municipality’s extensive information with a distinctive presentation that reflected the village throughout the year.
