Address Record (A Record)

An Address Record (A Record) is the most basic type of DNS record. It points a domain or subdomain to an IPv4 address (e.g., 192.0.2.1).

A Records are used to tell the internet exactly where your web server is located. Without an A Record, a user typing your domain into a browser will find nothing, as the browser won’t know which IP address to request the website files from.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. An A Record must point to an IP address. If you need to point one domain to another domain, you should use a CNAME or a URL Redirect.
